Responsible gambling: limits and stop signs

Gambling has a real risk of loss. It should never be a plan to make money, pay bills, solve debt, or recover a previous loss. This page offers practical safeguards; it is not medical, financial or legal advice.

Set limits before opening a session

  1. Choose a maximum amount you can afford to lose as entertainment, after essentials and savings.
  2. Choose a start and end time. Set an alarm outside the gambling app or browser.
  3. Decide in advance that you will not add funds after reaching either limit.
  4. Tell a trusted person your limit if you find it hard to stick to one.

Use controls early

Look for deposit caps, loss caps, time reminders, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion before gambling. Take screenshots or notes of where these settings are. If an operator cannot explain its controls, consider that a reason not to proceed.

Warning signs

One sign is enough to pause. Step away, use a time-out or self-exclusion option, and speak to an independent support service in your region.

A short reset plan

Close the site, remove saved payment methods, block gambling notifications, and take a break long enough to review your spending and wellbeing. Avoid “one last round”; it is a common form of chasing behaviour. If gambling is causing harm, seek professional or independent support promptly.
